During the entire seventeenth season of The Voice, it seemed that most fans were pulling for the Chicago native by the name of Katie Kadan. Kadan wowed fans with her beautiful, powerful voice all season. However, she placed third in the finale. Jake Hoot of Team Kelly went on to win the finals. But how? He barely made it through the blind auditions where Kelly took a risk with her last minute turn. Then, he somehow makes it to the finals? Not to take anything away from Jake who is a great performer, but he did not have the best voice throughout the season. Lets not forget the other two finalists, Ricky Duran and Rose Short. Both contestants had an amazing voice and are very talented. They both proved their worth and made it to the finals. Both were worthy of being called the winner. However, it still seemed that Katie was gonna take the win. So everyone was very surprised when Rose and Katie were the first to be eliminated. Of course, NBC wants us to believe that Jake's rise to the top was a miracle, feel good story. But was it really? It seems like the same old story over again. It seems that every time a country artist, with the same voice as any other of their calliber, comes through they are handed the victory. Every once in a while, we will see a boring pop artist that we have seemed to hear a thousand times before. But when a new, unique voice appears, it seems that they are pushed away and swept under the carpet. By all means, I know Katie and Rose weren't because they made it all the way to the finals. But it seemed that they we were only given false hope for their win. After Jakes win, the backlash came. Fans from around the world began to give their thoughts on the situation. Most argued that Katie was the real winner this season rather than Jake. Some argued it was Ricky or Rose. However, very few argued that Jake was the rightful winner. This is why I among many others believe this show is rigged. The fact that so many disagree with the final result shows that the votes had to have been in one of the other contestants favor. This type of controversy has been going on for the past seventeen seasons and it needs to stop. They need to give new and unique contestants a chance instead of unfairly handing the victory to the same old voices we hear every season. With that being said, The Voice needs to actually listen to the fans or NBC should cancel the show altogether to prevent this type of unfair competition.
