Cam Washes is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), a few miles north of Waterbeach. It’s the only SSSI in our ward. It is crucial for wading birds, but their numbers have declined due to poor site management causing parts to dry out. Natural England is responsible for ensuring the site is maintained. Although it acknowledges the need for remediation it has failed to take action. Despite efforts by Cllr Paul Bearpark and residents over the past 18 months, no progress has been made. We’re launching a petition urging Natural England to take action and fulfil its statutory duty. Sign the petition which we’ll be taking to the head of Natural England.
