Nationwide Insurance: Should Cover Spay/Neuter for Rabbits

Nationwide Insurance: Should Cover Spay/Neuter for Rabbits
The Issue
As a passionate advocate for the well-being of rabbits, I am deeply concerned about the lack of coverage provided by Nationwide Insurance for spaying and neutering procedures. This petition aims to urge Nationwide Insurance to reconsider their policy and include coverage for these essential preventative treatments.
Personal Story:
My love for rabbits began when I adopted my beloved bunny, Ian. He quickly became an integral part of my family, bringing joy and companionship into our lives. However, as Ian grew older, he developed testicular cancer due to not being neutered in his earlier years.
Witnessing Ian's suffering was heart-wrenching. The financial burden of her medical expenses was overwhelming. It is disheartening that Nationwide Insurance does NOT considers spaying and neutering as preventative treatment rather than a necessary procedure to ensure the health and longevity of rabbits.
Facts & Statistics:
1. Uterine Cancer in Does: According to reputable sources such as the House Rabbit Society, more than 80% of entire does over three years old will develop uterine cancer if they are not spayed. This type of cancer is malignant, spreading to vital organs like the lungs and liver.
2. Testicular & Prostate Cancer in Bucks: While often overlooked, bucks can also suffer from testicular and/or prostate cancer if they are not neutered.
3. Preventative Nature: Spaying or neutering rabbits is crucial in preventing various health issues such as reproductive organ diseases (e.g., pyometra), behavioral problems (e.g., aggression), territorial marking (spraying urine), unwanted pregnancies leading to overcrowding at shelters or abandonment cases.
By covering these essential procedures under their insurance plans, Nationwide can play a significant role in promoting responsible pet ownership while ensuring the overall well-being of rabbits across the nation.
Conclusion:
It is time for Nationwide Insurance to recognize the importance of spaying and neutering rabbits. By expanding their coverage to include these procedures, they would not only alleviate the financial burden on rabbit owners but also contribute to reducing the prevalence of reproductive organ diseases and unwanted litters.
I urge Nationwide Insurance to listen to the voices of countless rabbit lovers who believe in providing the best care for their furry companions. Let us join together and make a difference by signing this petition, encouraging Nationwide Insurance to take a compassionate stance towards rabbits and cover spay and neuter procedures.
Together, we can create a brighter future for rabbits nationwide.
