Calling government to allow processing and entry of foreign housemaids

The Issue

It is an undeniable fact that foreign housemaids are a necessity for most households today as nearly 5000 of them are imported into our country on a yearly basis prior to this pandemic. Unfortunately, the prolonged MCO has brought all foreign maid entries to a standstill since the start of lockdown and till today, no adjustments have been made by the government for the interest of those affected.

The shortage of foreign housemaid is getting highly critical as many households are in dire needs of a helping hand, especially for families with children and working parents, and also those with elderlies or sick patients to be taken care of.

Not to mention there are around 1000 agencies in Malaysia that actually make major economic contributions. After losing their reliable source of income since the pandemic, most of them are barely surviving with many on the verge of insolvency. Employees under the agencies are facing worse as retrenchment is the so called 'solution' for agencies today. The conundrum this industry is facing is terrifying but it has long been overlooked by our Malaysian government.

Our government is starting to realize the significance of economic stability which is why various sectors have already been allowed to operate today. Besides, Malaysian students from foreign countries can now make their return, so what's stopping the government from batting an eye on the maid industry and offering possible solutions?
