Hello
Thank you everyone for the continued support. I have had another reply from NICE on the 19th April .......
Dear Diane,
Thank you for your follow up email relating to our guidance TA166 cochlear implants for children and adults with severe to profound deafness. I am sorry if you felt my previous response didn’t address your questions.
Our current guidance is based on the evidence that was available at the time the guidance was developed. The review in 2011 did not highlight any new evidence that would impact on the recommendations and the decision not to update the guidance was supported by stakeholders, including the British Cochlear Implant Group. The revision decision paper is published on our website (www.nice.org.uk).
I can confirm that this guidance is currently under review to see if an update is warranted. As there has been significant interest in the topic we will hold a public consultation on our review proposal. Submitting comments to the consultation is the most appropriate way for individuals and organisations to make their views known. If after this consultation the decision is to review the guidance, then there will be further opportunities for individuals to comment after the draft guidance is published. I would encourage you at this stage to submit your comments through one of the stakeholder organisations. The updated matrix containing the list of stakeholders will be published on our website shortly. We expect to publish the review decision this summer and we are aware of the debate in the House of Commons.
In the meantime, organisations and individuals are welcome to send details of any evidence that they believe we should consider in the review, to: nice@nice.org.uk.
Kind regards
Katy
Jim Fitzpatrick MP had wrote to NICE after the debate asking for a meeting. The have now stated ......
In order that I can make a useful contribution to a discussion with you, I think it would be best if we were to defer any meeting until we have been able to consider the evidence submitted to us as part of that review.
Jim and Richard Mitchell will be leaving Westminster on 2nd May to campaign for the General Election and if they are successful they will be picking this up again when they return in June. Jim has been extremely helpful MP, and I hope to see him return to his position of Chair of the APPG.
The first day of summer is declared as 21st June and the last day is 22nd September. As NICE are expecting to publish the review by Summer please submit comments ASAP.
You can send comments to any of the stakeholders. Brian Lamb is the chair of the ACIAG (Adult Cochlear Implant Action Group) and you can contact him at
brian.publicaffairs@gmail.com
The NCIUA (National Cochlear Implant Users Association) is also a stakeholder and a member of the ACIAG and they are also happy to have any comments sent to them and they will feed into the group.
