As an accomplished hunter, she has much to contribute in a survival situation; the skills to stalk, take, and process food. Her removal from the show simply because she is a quote “trophy hunter” is prejudicial, and dilutes part of what is required in survival; sustenance. Some may be found in plants, the rest must be hunted or trapped especially in a place that can be as devoid of edible plants as Alaska. Alaska Natives made a science of survival in this great state, most of which was based on the harvest of game. Melissa Bachman’s status as a so called “trophy hunter” demonstrates her ability for harvest, proving that not only is she capable of gathering food, she has such an aptitude for it that she can pick and choose the one she wants. Such talent is indispensable in a survival situation and to remove said talent detracts from the authenticity of the situation.
