National Express WM - Cannock needs you on Sundays!

The Issue

We are mindful of the current disruption due to covid-19 however we want to get the ball rolling with this petition. Just to be clear, we are campaigning for after the covid-19 disruption and when bus timetables resume to normal. We want to thank bus drivers on the front line working during this difficult time.

Background
You may remember our petition at the beginning of 2018 to reverse the Staffordshire County Council's decision to withdraw subsidies for evening and Sunday buses across South Staffordshire. Unfortunately this still went ahead. We spoke with all local operators and remain in communication on this issue, but it would be a major risk for them to reopen their depots on Sunday after this length of time.

Why National Express West Midlands?
We have no preference - any operator willing and able to operate evening and Sundays in South Staffordshire would be highly respected and welcomed by many thousands. This petition is aimed at NXWM simply because they already operate locally from their Carl Street depot in Walsall, and subsequently have the best chance of making this work. NXWM have already launched a successful Sunday link between Lichfield, Burntwood and Walsall on their 10A service, and links between Lichfield, Sutton Coldfield and Birmingham on their X3 service.

Local needs
We need this vital link between Cannock, Great Wyrley and the West Midlands for commuters and key workers, carers, shoppers and those that visit family and friends. There are many onward links from Bloxwich and Walsall. We proudly work with West Midlands Railway on a project at Landywood Station, however train services are not accessible all public transport users, so it is important to have a balance. We are asking for this all year round, not as a temporary measure.

Solution
The most obvious solution is to run the existing X51 to Cannock on Sundays. From there, NXWM could potentially consider further services from Cannock to link areas such as Stafford and Lichfield to rebuild a Sunday network. National Express West Midlands, it's your time to help!
