The National Education Union's Officers Group has voted for Debbie Hayton for a trans position on the TUC LGBT+ Council, despite her well-documented transphobic views. This is a kick in the teeth for trans and non-binary NEU members.

This decision is anti-democratic and was taken against the advice of the TUC LGBT+ Committee representative. Hayton would not have won the nomination if it had been voted on at Conference or at a National Executive meeting. They have no mandate for this decision - it should be voted on at Conference by LGBT+ members.

We need to restore democracy to our union. The NEU leadership must withdraw this vote and apologise to trans and non-binary members.
