This petition focuses on the lack of access that transgender women have to healthcare. Although it is illegal for a health care provider to deny someone that identifies as transgender, there are multiple reasons as to why it might be hard to find a health care provider that is suitable. There is a lack of providers that are sufficiently knowledgeable on the anatomy of a transgender body, but there are doctors who continue to discriminate and show a lack of cultural proficiency. I want to bring more awareness to this issue in hopes that there will be doctors who specialize in transgender health. Transgender women feel very vulnerable and uncomfortable in the hands of most medical professionals. Although they may be labeled as "professional", not all act with such empathy. I am doing in this hopes to bring more equality into the community.
