Real Estate agents to ask SoloPro and Lowe's to change deceptive advertising practices regarding their Rebate program.
The Issue
Lowe's Home Improvement Stores has started a new venture with SoloPro to try to discourage the use of traditional real estate agents by changing the way real estate transactions are handled. These agents are able to negotiate contracts and conduct inspections for a set fee. In exchange, the Buyer will be given a rebate towards closing costs. There are several issues with a practice like this.
1. If litigation were to occur as a result of a transaction going wrong, the Buyer does not appear to truly be represented.
2. Many experienced agents would not participate in a program like this.
3. The website claims to give 3% rebate, but when you read the fine print it appears that the rebates vary by agent and region. This is deceptive marketing for a Buyer who signs up thinking they will get a fixed rebate.
4. SoloPro is not a licensed real estate broker.
We are asking SoloPro to change their deceptive marketing strategy by advertising that rebate vary from region to region.
We are asking the National Association of Realtor's to rethink their partnership with Lowe's.
We are asking Keller Williams, Remax, Berkshire Hathaway, and Prudential to contact SoloPro and ask them to remove your logos from their website.
There are over 1 million real estate agents in the US. Let's come together to keep our industry respected.
