National Action Now: Safeguard Indian Children from Online Addiction

National Action Now: Safeguard Indian Children from Online Addiction
The Issue
To,
The Government of India,
Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology,
Ministry of Women & Child Development,
Ministry of Education.
We, the undersigned citizens of India, express deep concern over the rising impact of excessive and unsupervised digital exposure on minors.
Recent tragic incidents involving adolescents have highlighted urgent concerns regarding:
Online gaming addiction
Excessive streaming content consumption
Social isolation due to digital immersion
Lack of parental awareness about digital risks
Growing mental health vulnerability among teenagers
India has over 750 million smartphone users, with millions of minors accessing online content daily without structured guidance.
The World Health Organization has recognized Gaming Disorder as a mental health condition. Studies across India show teenagers spending 4–7 hours daily on screens beyond academic purposes.
While digital technology is essential for progress, child safety must remain a national priority.
🛑 Our Demands
We respectfully urge the Government to:
Introduce age-based digital access regulations for minors.
Mandate parental control systems by default on smartphones sold for minors.
Regulate addictive game design mechanics targeting children.
Implement digital literacy and mental health education in schools.
Establish a National Digital Wellbeing Policy for Children.
Require streaming platforms to display screen-time warnings for minors.
Promote community-level digital discipline initiatives.
👨👩👧 Why This Matters
We are not just raising children.
We are raising the generation that will build India’s future.
If emotional isolation replaces communication,
If screens replace supervision,
If silence replaces dialogue —
We risk losing more young minds.
This petition does not seek to blame any culture, country, or technology.
It seeks responsible regulation, awareness, and parental empowerment.
