Officer Peter Liang was convicted of 2nd degree manslaughter in the death of 28 year old Akai Gurley. Yet the prosecutor Ken Thompson recommended he be given NO JAIL TIME and the Judge agreed! He was sentenced to 800 hours Community service and 5 years probation. Niether the district attorney who prosecuted him nor the judge believed he intentionally sought to murder the young man in a darkened stairwell. Still the young man is dead and the family left grieving. The video within this update is footage concerning protests held outside the courtroom while awaiting the judges sentencing of this officer. Supporters of the officer are on one side of the street while supporters of the family are on another. The verdict "crushed" many of the parents at this protests who are themselves awaiting justice for a loved one murdered by police. The decision of the judge to issue NO JAIL TIME has left them without hope of obtaining justice for their loved ones. The woman in the video is distraught behind the decision. And I am furious at seeing what it has done to the expectation of those awaiting justice. I insist and indeed demand in "police accountability" across the board. And I have made this known repeatedly. I need you to work with me in obtaining the signatures needed. We can do much more than what has been done thus far. And I encourage each of you to do so! Help me, for I am doing all in my power to get the demand heard and gain additional support.
