This week brought many of our supporters face to face with the stark reality that men in science are quite literally toasting and celebrating National Academy members who have demeaned, intimidated and retaliated against women. James Watson deserves no champagne toasts. Time is very much up for good old boys who harass, assault and retaliated against women, and the men that think these people deserve a celebration. We want to have more supporters than members of the NAS, and we just passed 1900 signatures demanding the National Academy of Sciences oust members found guilty of sexual misconduct or retaliation. NAS membership is a privilege. Universities should, at the very least, have to provide documentation that Academy members have not been found guilty of violating Title IX protections. Every scientific society has their eyes on us right now to see if we can make this change. Our goal is to hit 2000 signatures by this weekend.
