What an eventful week Kayne had! I ended up missing most of it due to returning home to Florida for the hurricane. We pray for less damage than anticipated. On Tuesday, September 5 Kayne got a chance to meet Mike the Tiger VII with a private meeting with veterinarian. This was an unusual opportunity and one Kayne was thrilled to have. Kayne attended the Bengal Belles luncheon on Thursday, September 7. Our host family, Aimee Simon started the foundation twenty-plus years ago and Kayne was honored at the luncheon. Kayne’s video was shown to the guests in attendance and head swim coach David Geyer said kind words about Kayne as well as President and Chancellor King Alexander. Kayne was presented with his own pair of tiger eyes football gloves and was awarded the Eye of the Tiger award for his confidence, internal power and strength. Kayne also had a medical appointment on Thursday. He met with the care team to include palliative care. Some changes were made to his medicine. He was being Kayne and making the care team laugh as they get to know him better. On Friday, September 8th Kirsten’s cousin Bill, his wife and son were in town. The LSU School of Veterinary Medicine and College of Agriculture had a party for Kayne since they didn’t get to come to his birthday party. They surprised Kayne by making him an honorary member of the SVM Class of 2020. He was presented his own blue coat, stethoscope and took the ethics oath with the class. He was beyond thrilled and Dementor the Moose was honored as well with nail trimming, a gift basket full of goodies, toys and several bags of dog food. We are thankful for the kindness of everyone who came out for the ceremony and party. Saturday was a huge day. The Simon’s treated us to our first LSU football game against Chattanooga. The day was sunny and gorgeous. We got a tour of the LSU football team locker room before the players showed up. Kayne stood up from his scooter and touched The Win Bar, a tradition for all the players to touch or slap as they run out onto the field. We tailgated a few hours with some good food and then we went back to the stadium for our on the field experience. Kayne had a front and center spot in his scooter to see the players come out. The athletic director Joe Alleva was there and he moved us up to the field so Kayne could see the players warm up. This is where Angelle Simon got the picture of Head Football Coach Ed Orgeron, Joe Alleva and Kayne. After the band finished their performance we headed upstairs to the Simon’s suite. Kayne and Moose got settled on the front row of the suite and I joined Kayne. It was a perfect time for me to hang out, talk and cut up with Kayne as we watched the game, especially since I was gone all week. Keagan and the FSU swimmers were told they could leave and come back Tuesday after the hurricane storms if they wanted to so Keagan caught a flight out of Tallahassee on Saturday and headed to Louisville, Kentucky to visit Kendra. He will return to FSU on Tuesday. We pray for not only our home, but for everyone else in Florida. We have many friends and family on both coasts. Some stayed and some evacuated. As the storm is just now going through we also pray for everyone’s safety. Kayne has his second infusion of Avastin coming up this Tuesday. We pray for more relief from his symptoms. We wish everyone a fabulous week with love from our family to yours! Remember September is Childhood Cancer awareness month. Kayne continues to spread awareness with his foundation, Cannonballs For Kayne Foundation. Help us spread awareness and raise funds for research. Kayne’s main mission with his foundation is to help fund research in hopes to find a cure so other families in the future have more than prayers for a miracle against this disease called DIPG.
