Friends, we are facing unprecedented times throughout our country.

As we battle the outbreak of COVID-19, millions of Americans are going, and will continue to go, without income. Many are laid off, furloughed, or have lost freelance work. In Nashville, our musical community is our namesake, and they are suffering heavy losses along with the rest of us.

After surviving multiple F-3 tornados, the last thing we need is the economic criss we're facing, so we must come together to stick up for our neighbors and loved ones. Nobody deserves to lose their housing this time, and we are demanding rent relief for all Nashville tenants immediately.

Let us be clear:

- Tenants cannot pay rent and need an immediate rent freeze. This will allow monies to continue to spent in other areas of the economy and will prevent further economic recession as well as evictions. It will also give tenants the ability to purchase medical care, food, and other survival items.

- Giant, corporate landlords do not require bailouts. Small people do. We are demanding that the city of Nashville also freeze all mortgage payments for small landlords and homeowners as well. Tenants are not demanding that individual owners suffer; we will make sure you are included in measures.

- Tax the wealthiest 1% in the city or draw from slush funds/savings and other funds not currently being used in the city's budget to cover these expenses.

This is an evolving document. As we gain more information about potential sources of funding and how best to protect small homeowners and tenants alike, we will further add to and edit these demands to meet the appropriate need.

Most importantly, we will do everything in our power to protect the most vulnerable Nashvillians. We love and appreciate our neighbors and know that right now, we're the only ones looking for each other. Little guys for the little guys!

Why?

Because we're Nashville Strong.
