My Recent Email to Our Governmental Agencies and Our Elected Leaders regarding the upcoming URI Research Study Presentation for Galilee.
Dear State Agency Members and Elected Officials,
With Major Storms such as Hurricanes and Tornadoes that are having devastating consequences across the United States and throughout the World there is no doubt about the devastating effects of Global Warming. We can think of these events as an Omen for things to hit our State of Rhode Island as a result of climate change. There is a chance Galilee can someday be underwater if we do not take steps to mitigate the effects of our changing climate by developing safeguards to protect the infrastructure of Galilee. The Town of Narragansett believes this is such a critical issue that the last town council decided to fund the project that was recently completed by the University of Rhode Island. Dr. Will Green is a leading expert in the area of research and development that will mitigate the consequences of the devastating effects of global warming and rising waters. In his last presentation, his class of students came up with many creative solutions for Galilee, sadly, since that last research study very little has been done based on the researcher's prior recommendations. Here is a link to the prior research study: Galilee: A Vision for a Resilient Port – Department of Landscape Architecture (uri.edu). University of Rhode Island's First Research Study for Galilee. Attached to this email is a copy of the last research study. It is our hope his research will not fall on deaf ears, but we as a State will implement many of his class's recommendations. I am therefore calling on all State Agencies from the Governor's office, the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management, the Coastal Resources Management Council, local legislators, news stations, and newspapers to bring to light on the research that will be discussed this upcoming Tuesday at the Narragansett Town Hall from 5pm-7pm. Please see the information screen shots noted below. Dr. Will Green's contact information is in the below screenshot if you want to contact him directly. As the Governor noted, the State of Rhode Island has Millions of dollars to invest in Galilee, so now is the time to look at critical research, so that money can be used wisely to Save Galilee. Please feel free to reach out to me via email or call me if I can answer any questions. I would add, we can do so much more for Galilee than utilizing prime real estate for street level parking lots for private developers gains and the State of Rhode Island's loss. I would add, the Lighthouse Inn needs to be inspected to determine if any of it can be salvaged or if it needs to be demolished as it can be considered an environmental hazard, and it has been an economic drain on the entire Port of Galilee.
Respectfully Submitted, Dr. Albert Alba
