Scrape Nuclear Power Plant of Mithi-Virdi,Gujarat.
The Issue
Petition for withdrawing decision of installing a nuclear power-plant at Mithi-
Virdi, near Ghogha, district: Bhavnagar, Gujarat by Government of India
To,
The Prime Minster,
Government of India,
New Delhi.
Minster for environment,
Government of India,
New Delhi.
Minster of Power,
Government of India,
New Delhi.
Nuclear Power corporation of India.
New Delhi.
Sub: Petition for withdrawing decision of Government of Indi a of installing a nuclear power plant at
Mithi-Virdi, near Ghogha, district: Bhavnagar, Gujarat, India.
Respected Sir,
Jay Bharat.
We following citizens of India , staying near affected site of Mithi-Virdi, Near Bhavnagar, Gujarat and
also citizens of India staying anywhere in India and abroad, and world citizens who care for global
environment ; hereby pledge following points may be brought in consideration:
1) Security threat:
The most important reason why a nuclear plant cannot be and should not be installed in any
part of Gujarat? Because of its close proximity to our known enemy country, in case of a War; a
nuclear plant can act as “the bomb on self”! Imagine a situation when a suicidal or any other
fighter jet; when attacks our nuclear power plant, it can bring about very disastrous results for
our country and the region itself! Sometimes up to a level of unimaginable level!
2) Effects on human health:
Because of the close proximity of this nuclear power plant to the lakhs of human population, it
is at all not desirable to expose such dense population to detrimental effects of human health.
Usually such sites may be at a remote place in desert or near forest, in a barren land or near a
vast waste land near a sea cost away from enemy country! The government of India has moved
a proposal to develop a” smart city” in Alang which is very near to this city, about 40 k.m. only!
So will it be wise to invest billions of Rupees in a smart city where there is a constant danger of
“Nuclear disaster “?!
3) Effects on environment:
Please refer following world level neutral scientific study:
Titled:
“ENVIRONMENTAL EFFECTS OF NUCLEAR POWER
GENERATION
A. S. Paschoa
Department of Physics, Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
One aspect of the routine releases of from nuclear power generation deserves
further attention. Three radionucliotides,
3
H,
85
Kr and
14
radionucliotides C with half-lives
12.3 years, 10.7 years, and 57,300, respectively, are emitted in gaseous or liquid phases.
Because their long half-lives these radionucliotides accumulate and circulate in the global
environment. Studies on the long term environmental effects of nuclear power generation
will need to take into account the overall releases of
3
H,
85
Kr and
14
C.
The site of construction of a nuclear power plant should always be chosen to
minimize the effects of a potential accident. Before constructing a nuclear power plant in
any particular site data are gathered on the local meteorology, population density in the
surrounding areas, existing crops, and orography. Such data will be used to make site
specific analyses involving real time estimation of accident consequences. Design reactors
engineers estimate that a probability of occurring an accident with a nuclear power plant is
very low, because they trust the multiple levels of protection against reactor and/or
containment failures with significant radionuclide releases. However, models are also
selected for calculating doses, health effects, and economic costs due to accidental
radionuclide releases from nuclear power plants. Moreover, there are established criteria
for preparation and evaluation of radiological emergency response plans and preparedness
in support of nuclear power plants. A copy of full text is attached.
4) Known reserves of uranium are only sufficient to meet the world's total
energy demand for only two years! So what is use of promoting Nuclear energy?
. 5) Please see this expert opinion of a great scientist
Dangers of Nuclear Power Generation
John Scales Avery
University of Copenhagen, Denmark
March 24, 2011.
“Public opinion turned against nuclear power generation as a result of
the Chernobyl disaster. Had the disaster taken place in Western Europe or
North America, its effect on public opinion would have been still greater.
Nevertheless, because of the current energy crisis, and because of the widespread
(but false) belief that nuclear power generation is an answer to global
Warming, a number of people are arguing that nuclear energy should be given
a second chance.” . Copy of full text attached.
In view of above realities we all thousands and lakhs of residents of Ghogha
taluka and all residents nearby Mithi-Virdi dist: Bhavnagar, Gujarat; appeal you
all to cancel the project of installation of ‘Nuclear power plant’ in Mithi-Virdi’ or
nearby anywhere in Gujarat.
Thanking You
