India is not safe for women, sometimes not in broad daylight but definitely not after sun down. Staying in Bangalore, near the police commissioner's office, eaves teasing or grabbing of breasts or butt is not unusual. If the area around Raj Bhavan, Vidhana Soudha and Police Commissioner's Office is not safe then which is? The shivajinagar area is packed with men harassing women. There's a lane in yelahanka, at the end of which is a girl's pg for college students and that lane is popularly called "rape lane". Every girl stays in fear. There's more to be said about Bangalore but this petition is for every Indian citizen. Listing down the rape cases in the country: -Nirbhaya Rape Case -Mumbai gang rape of a 22yr old photo journalist -The bangalore rape case of a two year old by van driver in a school van -Scarlett Keeling rape and murder in Goa -Minors gang raped in New Alipore in Kolkata -14 yr old Gujarat rape victim denied abortion The list can go on and on and on. India has 36735 recorded rape cases in 2014 alone. Imagine how many go unrecorded. Reasons given for women being raped in India: -wearing short clothes -going out in the dark -drinking and smoking -partying -item songs in the movies -girl is travelling alone in a cab -most cases pass unregistered -shortage of judges in the indian court system -low status of women And the points are never ending. Response: Women wearing burkhas are also raped. They just show their eyes or face then why are they being raped. Women have the equal right as men to wear whatever they want. That does not give men the liberty to touch a woman or kidnap and rape her. Drinking, smoking and partying is considered indecent for a woman. Says who? Men go to underground pubs, liqour stores and other shady places but if a woman is getting out a party from a five star hotel and into hotel, that does not give the cab diver the licence to rape her! It's very common for cases to pass unregistered or overlooked. Due to prolonged cases (even over ten years) the family's name is juggled in the media for several years. Family receiving threats from the rapists. Indian court has 15 judges for 1million people! Are you serious? With a country of such high criminal cases, which needs to decline but is not, why can't there be more judges and courts and law enforcers? Public safety is a hazard in India. Women in India are considered to be Lakshmi, Durga, Ambika, Saraswati and so on. They are considered to be the goddesses. How does shamming women and raping them on the streets fit into this? Also why is marital rape in India legal? Women are not even safe inside their own houses. You might raise your daughter as a tender flower then why rape somebody else's daughter or sister. She is still a woman and and a goddess. She has not harmed you and nor will she ever then why harm her and her entire family! To men: If you're a rapist, you should be hung without a trial. There can be no legal or acceptable reason to rape a woman ever!
