Mullaperiyar issue

Mullaperiyar issue
The Issue
Dear sir
My name is Jerry living in Kerala . i am writing this mail for notifying that what if Mullaperiyar dam collapse . i think you all know that monsoon season is coming and are aware of the flood which hit Kerala for the past two years . what if another flood hits Kerala again in 2020 . if the dam collapse its going to affect entire 4 districts it can threaten the lives of 3.5 million people downstream . including me and my family . as an Indian citizen i have the rights to know what actions are taken against this case (because the dam is 125 years old ) maximum life span of a dam is 40 to 50 years the dam was constructed from limestone and "surkhi" (burnt brick powder and a mixture of sugar and calcium oxide )
As our politicians are not taking any action i am requesting the judiciary to take action against the Mullaperiyar issue . as an Indian citizen i have the right to live . now we are threaten with our lives . i know we are going through tough situation but prevention is better than cure
1, Kindly ask the authority's to lower the water level to below 50 % in rain season
2, Decommission the dam and give the permission to build new one to help Tamil Nadu.
After the 1979 Morvi Dam failure which killed up to 15,000 people, safety concerns of the aging Mullaperiyar dam's and alleged leaks and cracks in the structure were raised by the Kerala Government.A study conducted by The Center for Earth Science Studies had reported that the structure would not withstand an earthquake above magnitude 6 on the Richter scale.
Current safety concerns relate to several issues. Since the dam was constructed using stone rubble masonry with lime mortar grouting following prevailing 19th-century construction techniques that have now become archaic, seepage and leaks from the dam have caused concern. Moreover, the dam is situated in a seismically active zone. An earthquake measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale occurred on 7 June 1988 with maximum damage in Nedumkandam and Kallar (within 20 km of the dam).Subsequently, several tremors have occurred in the area in recent times. These could be reservoir-induced seismicity,
The big question is: Are the lives of 3.5 million Indians who are living today in anxiety and fear of a possible wipe out important to this country? A civilization is under the threat of a wipe-out.. Whenever a terror attack or security breach happens in our country, we point fingers at our neighboring country. But here is a problem that can take the lives of so many innocent Indians, which can be stopped. And what exactly is our political leadership in this country doing? Nothing.
Thanks and regards
Jerry Tom Joseph
