Thalassemia is a genetic disorder which has no treatment except regular blood transfusions.It can be eradicated just by awareness .

There are about 4 crore people in India who carry thalassemia traits.If blood test is done before marriage or during pregnancy the trait will not pass to the baby.

Currently 1 lakh patients require blood transfusion every month.The average cost per patient is Rs.1 lakh per year.

There should be a national policy on Thalassemia and steps should be made by government to aware people and mandatory blood test before marriage.

A one step can eradicate the disease from India which will save lakhs of life .
