Bhawna Arora started this petition to Shri Narendra Modi (Prime Minister)

Your blood can give a life to someone.

India has the world's largest shortage of blood, with all states together battling a huge shortfall of 41 million units and demand outstripping supply by over 400%, says the first of its kind study published in the journal The Lancet. And demand is rising.

Blood donation saves lives — also and especially in the time of corona virus. The number of people donating has dropped because of the fear of infection. But there are also many who want to help — also and especially now.

  • Blood in the time of corona: Why donations are needed more than ever

Our Country where we require 1.6 Crore Units Of Blood Annually to help the Patients but alas we are only able to get 1.1-1.2 Crore Units ( with just 25-30% Voluntary Blood Donations...... Rest all being asked forcibly to patients to bring donors)...... and even then a huge Shortage Of about 25-30% remains which results in several thousand deaths every year ( including shamefully about One Lakh Deaths Of Mother’s during Delivery; 1.76 Lakh deaths of Young Males in Road Traffic Accidents and more than a Thousand Thalassemia Patients EVERY YEAR). India has more than 50000 Patients suffering from Thalassemia who require at least One Lakh Units + per month to live for another month. Isn’t it tragic! Almost Five Hundred such unfortunate kids do not survive even to celebrate their First Birthday.

Individuals are not at risk of contracting COVID-19 through the blood donation process or via a blood transfusion, since respiratory viruses are generally not known to be transmitted by donation or transfusion.

In a disaster, the first priorities of the Task Force are to:

  • Verify and communicate to the blood community the medical need for blood
Identify sites with existing excess blood inventory
Determine the need, if any, for blood shipment and the logistics of such shipments
Develop public messages and facilitate the discussion of donor issues

Our heart goes out in Prayers to God Almighty to request esteemed Government of India, organisations, NGO, Voluntary Blood donors to do a bit whatever we can in these hard times and save precious lives.

KAB Welfare Foundation happy to  collaborate with government and blood banks and serve humanity.
