We are pleased to announce that the Repeal Section 377 petition has reached 10 000+ signatures just this morning!!! This is a significant milestone and we would like to thank all those who have signed this petition! At British Asian LGBTI we have been busy planning our first ever South Asian LGBTI conference in Birmingham in the summer (details soon to be announced on our social media!) If you are in London this weekend, our friends at Gaysians UK are hosting the Desi Lesbians event at Upstairs at the Ritzy (see http://www.gaysians.org for details). Asking the important question- What are the reasons behind the lack of visible, out, lesbian and bi South Asian women? We believe that Section 377 is a big reason, with consequences not only in India but for South Asian diaspora communities all around the world. Meanwhile, here is Part one of the Hindustan Times' series, Let’s Talk About 377, where restaurateur Ritu Dalmia asks the Supreme Court to decriminalise the archaic law, arguing that it impinges on dignity and privacy of LGBTI people in India. This five-part series encourages people to speak out against Section 377, with use of the hash tag #LetsTalkAbout377. British Asian LGBTI
