A stop to excessive working hours in India.

The Issue

Dear members,

I am here to explain about the grave danger that the employees and workers of India are facing. People in India are said to work the longest according to a survey conducted by the National Sample Survey Organisation.

Workers in cities clock 53-54 hours a week on average against the global mean of 43 hours. Three in four urban males and one in two women work more than the weekly 48 hours advised by the International Labour Organization. Experts attribute this to lower wages and a lack of labour law protection in the informal sector. Earlier, a ManpowerGroup survey showed Indians worked 52 hours a week on average, the highest in the world.

Overwork has been said to cause workplace depression. A 23-country survey by Cigna TTK Health Insurance said nearly nine in 10 Indians face everyday stress against the global average of 86%.

There lies a big opportunity for Government to win hearts of their masses by solving this problem for the massive workforce, our country has. Please sign my petition to decrease the work hours in the private sector and help the nation's workers from the depressions caused by work.
