The Issue

Airplanes flying too close and at low altitudes above our neighborhoods not only create a significant noise disturbance but also raise concerns about our safety and well-being. The World Health Organization has recognized that excessive noise can have harmful effects on health, including sleep disturbance, increased stress levels, and cardiovascular issues. Napa residents should not have to sacrifice their peace and health in their own homes.

the Airport and its Manager did not properly notify Napa residents of the change being made  to the runway approach and the reasoning the airport provides for why the new runway approach flies dangerously close to and over thousands of houses in the middle of our once peaceful neighborhoods is fishy, at best. While we appreciate Napa Valley having a strong tourism industry, with new commercial airlines flying into Napa, this situation will only get worse. We effectively live on the tarmac now and should not be forced to do so without any say.

Our homes are no longer a sanctuary, a place where we could find peace and solace away from the busy world. The tranquility of Napa Valley has been shattered by the constant roar of airplanes flying overhead. Rather than small planes and helicopters the airport was originally built for, we now have both private and commercial jets coming in closely over our homes and schools-sometimes no more than 3 minutes apart. Conversations must pause to allow the deafening aircraft noise to pass, and times of peace and quiet Napa Valley is known for are repeatedly disrupted. This is a reality shared by many in the Napa community, where the current flight approach significantly affects our daily lives.

The solution lies in collaborating with airport authorities and aviation experts to explore alternative flight paths that could minimize noise impact. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), which oversees air traffic management, has worked with several communities across the nation to adjust flight paths to reduce noise pollution successfully. Encouraging Napa County Airport to engage in similar discussions is a necessary step forward.

The County and our elected representatives need to hear from the public

It's time to restore the peace that we once enjoyed and create a more harmonious balance between air travel and community life. We urge local officials, airport authorities, and the FAA to consider the needs and well-being of Napa residents by enacting a change in the flight approach for incoming airplanes.

We invite fellow Napa community members and supporters to ensure that our voices are heard and measures are taken to protect the tranquility of our homes. I understand the frustration you and neighbors are experiencing. The Airport Advisory Commission has (as you may know) appointed an Ad-Hoc committee to address noise. That committee is meeting regularly and is in the process of reviewing both operational and complaint data and looking a variety of ways to address the noise issues. Ultimately, any solutions that involve flight paths will need approval from the FAA. To voice your concerns, you may wish to complete and submit the Napa County Airport Noise Concern Form: https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=B7pmiUc9R0SpzyjHWxCALcr_meiUUABJpxWMoKjyXM5UMVdXMEo4TFpaTkVZVlhKN1VXRkY4SFVURC4u Alternatively, you can call and leave a message at: 707-253-4333. Please know that I hear your concerns and will continue to monitor the progress of the Commission and the Ad-Hoc.
