Take down St Augustine's confederate statues.

The Issue

We the people of St Augustine, signing this petition, are in full agreement with Rev. Ron Rawls statement "....to redefine this city and make an expeditious, but correct decision to no longer revere the shameful cause of these symbols by removing them from public spaces". We are a tourist town that hosts many people from all over the world. We need to show them and our own citizens that we do not idolize our tragic past. That we do not idolize traitors to the American Flag. Battle memorials are not that same as personal ones. Personal memorials are there to honor what they stood for and what these men stood for was not honorable. They should be taken down and put into a civil war museum before they are vandalized and then they will be lost forever. Taking down a statue doesn't erase history. Leaving them up honors it.
