Naming of Bridge in Laycock Park to Parker Wells Memorial Bridge
The Issue
A young boy named Parker Wells captured the hearts and attention of our entire community, province, and nation. Parker's untimely disappearance shook us to our core, forcing us to come together in an unprecedented display of solidarity and unity. Families we had never met joined hands, neighbors became friends, and strangers turned into an extended support network. Such was the power of Parker's story—a story of a community united by hope, love, and the relentless pursuit of a shared goal.
During the extensive and emotional search for Parker, we were reminded of the tremendous compassion, empathy, and resilience that exists among the people of Calgary, Alberta, and indeed, all of Canada. Across cultural, economic, and social divides, we stood as one, praying together, searching together, and finding solace in the shared commitment to bring Parker home. His disappearance, as tragic as it was, became a mirror reflecting the best of our community spirit—a testament to our capacity for kindness and togetherness.
We now have the opportunity to recognize and enshrine this extraordinary solidarity by naming the bridge in Laycock Park to Parker Wells Memorial Bridge. The Bridge serves currently as one of the memorials set up by the community. Laycock Park has long been a place of recreation, connection, and memories for many Calgary residents. Including Parker Wells Memorial Bridge it would not only honour the memory of the boy who brought us together but also serve as a permanent reminder of what we, as a community, can achieve when we are united in purpose.
Naming the bridge is an actionable step that acknowledges both the heartache endured by Parker's family and the remarkable spirit of unity demonstrated by all who were part of the search. It's a gesture that provides a legacy, ensuring that current and future generations understand the profound impact that Parker Wells had on all of us.
By signing this petition, you’re advocating for a meaningful change that will immortalize Parker’s memory and celebrate the collective kindness and strength of our community. Let’s come together once more to make this change a reality and give our children and grandchildren a symbol of hope and love—a place where they can remember not just Parker Wells, but what it means to truly belong to a community. Please sign our petition and help us pay tribute to Parker in a way he so richly deserves.
