On 5th September, 2023 a candle that once shone so bright dimmed. National Heroine Field Marshal Muthoni Wa Kirima rested. As we all unite in the solemn ceremony that celebrates the life and times of Field Marshal Muthoni Wa Kirima, we continue to call upon the Nyeri County Government and National Duty Bearers to esteem Field Marshal Muthoni Wa Kirima by naming a road in her honour.

Field Marshal Muthoni never had children of her own, she was however adamant that Kenya was her only child. On joining the Mau Mau for Muthoni, spying and bringing food was not enough, she wanted to fight. She wanted to be right where the action was. Muthoni convinced Field Marshal Dedan Kimathi to allow her into the forest as a fighter and proved a gallant soldier. Subsequently she was promoted to Field Marshal and became the only woman to have ever reached that status. She became the most senior woman within the Mau Mau ranks. Remembering our past is a national principle and priority, honoring our heroes and heroines is paramount.

Having met all the thresholds as set out in Article 10 and Chapter Six of the Constitution respectively, this petition calls for:

1. The Nyeri County Assembly and National duty bearers mandated with preserving and honoring national culture, to name a road after Field Marshal Muthoni Wa Kirima as a testament to posterity reminding Kenyans of the sacrifice it took for us to enjoy the fruits of our nation.
