Name the Weir Fire Station after SGT Shane Duffy

The Issue

My brother, Sgt. Shane Duffy, was a dedicated individual who served our country with unparalleled bravery. Tragically, he was Killed In Action in Iraq in June 2008, while exemplifying the courage and selflessness that we admire in our military heroes. His sacrifice was made all the more poignant when, posthumously, he was honored as a Taunton firefighter on September 2, 2008. His commitment to both his nation and his community deserves recognition that stands the test of time.

We propose naming the new Weir Fire Station in Taunton, MA after Sgt. Shane Duffy. It would offer a permanent tribute to a man who devoted his life to serving others, both in overseas battlefields and through his deeply felt calling to protect his community.

The naming of the fire station would not be just a symbolic gesture. It would serve as a daily reminder of the sacrifice Shane made and inspire future generations of first responders to serve with the same dedication and heroism that Shane embodied. Shane's memory can continue to inspire and uplift our community, urging us to live with courage, selflessness, and a profound sense of duty.

It would align with the customs of honoring those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. Other towns and cities have similarly honored local heroes by naming public facilities after them to thank them for their service and ensure their legacies endure.

We ask the decision-makers in Taunton to recognize my brother's contributions by naming the new Weir Fire Station in his honor. This act would grant Shane the remembrance he deserves and provide his family, friends, and the entire Taunton community a point of pride and comfort.

Let us acknowledge the legacy of Sgt. Shane Duffy. By signing this petition, you help us urge the authorities to honor a hero in a manner befitting his sacrifices. Please support this cause and help us ensure his memory lives on in the hearts and minds of the Taunton community.

Thank you for your support!
