As Artemis II astronauts made history flying farther into space than humans have gone in decades, they took a moment to honor someone they lost.

From orbit, the crew proposed naming a lunar crater after Carroll Wiseman — a nurse, a mother, and the late wife of mission commander Reid Wiseman, who died of cancer in 2020. The moment was emotional, with astronauts describing the crater as “a bright spot on the moon.”
