Name Montford Middle School Gym after Coach Monica Scott
The Issue
I cherished every moment spent under the guidance of Coach Monica Scott, who was more than just a coach and teacher at Montford Middle School. Having worked there for 14 remarkable years, she became a cornerstone of our school community. Losing her two years ago to lupus left a void that those who knew her feel deeply to this day.
Coach Scott played many roles in our lives. From being an inspiring softball and basketball coach to leading the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) with unwavering faith and dedication. She was not just a teacher or an athletic director; she was a lifelong mentor and friend to countless students, helping us grow not only in athletics but in character and spirit.
Monica Scott’s commitment to Montford Middle School was evident every single day. She worked tirelessly and passionately, even as lupus challenged her health. Her determination to serve her students knew no bounds until she physically could no longer continue. She inspired many, and she deserves to be remembered for the love and positivity she brought into our lives.
Naming the Montford Middle School gym in her honor would not only celebrate her profound legacy but also raise awareness for lupus. It would provide ongoing encouragement to others and symbolize perseverance, resilience, and compassion—values she instilled in all of us through her actions and words.
I urge the Montford Middle School administration and Leon County school district to recognize Monica Scott's incredible contributions by naming the school gym after her. Let her spirit and dedication live on and guide future generations. Please join me in signing this petition to ensure that Coach Monica Scott’s influence and memory remain a beacon of inspiration in our community.
