The Issue

Please support our petition for a proclamation naming June 8th World Oceans Day(already a UN designation) in honor of Tayden Tomblin, help us honor our beloved son’s legacy. He cherished the ocean above all else, we are petitioning to designate June 8 as World Oceans Day in honor of Tayden Tomblin in Santa Barbara, coincidently also his birthday. Tayden was a vibrant soul who not only loved the ocean but also dedicated his life to educating others about the importance of marine conservation. Tragically, Tayden's life was cut short in a skateboarding accident, leaving a void in our lives and the community. His passion for the ocean and teaching others about its wonders was infectious, and we want his legacy to inspire future generations.

The ocean covers more than 70% of our planet's surface and supports a diverse array of life. It plays a crucial role in regulating climate, supplying oxygen, and feeding millions of people worldwide. Despite its significance, the ocean is under constant threat from pollution, overfishing, and climate change. In Santa Barbara, these concerns are immediate and personal as our coastline and marine ecosystems are vital parts of our community and economy.

By naming June 8 as Tayden Tomblin World Oceans Day, we can honor Tayden’s memory and inspire collective action to protect our oceans. This day would not only commemorate Tayden's life but also raise awareness about ocean conservation. Educational events, beach clean-ups, and community involvement activities on this day can foster a deeper understanding of the ocean's role in sustaining life and motivate Santa Barbara's citizens to take action.

We must emphasize the urgency of protecting our oceans for future generations, as Tayden so passionately advocated. This initiative is not just about remembrance, but about making a tangible impact. Let's unite in Tayden's spirit to ensure the ocean's beauty and bounty can be preserved. Your support can help turn this vision into reality.

Please sign this petition to urge the Santa Barbara City Council to officially recognize the proclamation of  June 8 as World Oceans Day in honor of Tayden Tomblin. Let us honor Tayden's love for the ocean and continue his mission to educate and conserve this vital resource. Together, we can make a difference. The mayor has honored other citizens in this way why has he rejected our request? The proclamation draft has been uploaded as an update.
