Keep Waiyaki Way green, by stoping the indiscriminate cutting down of trees.

In the last 4 weeks a number of trees such as Grevillea & Nandi flame have been cut from the centre of the road to create space for the expansion of Waiyaki Way.   From my observation these trees may have been planted by the Nairobi City Council on completion of Waiyaki Way in the 1990s. However, from early October additional trees, which are located on the sides of the road and beyond the road reserve, are also being destroyed. These trees are outside of those planted by the city council, for example an eighty year-old eucalyptus tree was felled yesterday.

I understand that trees will need to be cut to allow for infrastructure development. However, I believe that this can be managed sustainably by employing tree transplanting, placing restrictions on the number & types of trees to be cut, and publishing a plan to ensure planting of new trees once infrastructure projects are completed.
