On May 31st, 2023 Nachito was hung to death by his owner.

 

His 'human' tied his leash to the clothes line in his yard, and left. He tied it so tight that Nachito could not get his paws on the ground. He struggled until a passer-by tried to get to him...but it was too late.

This is not an isolated incident. Animal cruelty is wide spread in Quintana Roo.

While there are some laws against animal cruelty in the state, they are rarely, if ever, enforced. If a cruelty case is reported, it is often ignored. If the complaint is put in enough times, the police may show up, but if the owner is not home or says they did not commit the crime, it will not be followed up and no action is ever taken. The abuser is free to torture, kill and continue to own animals. There are no consequences.

It's time for the governer of Quintana Roo, Mara Lezama, to take action against those who commit acts of animal cruelty and use the laws that have been put into place to protect those who cannot speak for themselves. 

On June 3rd 2023, 500 locals marched for Nachito.

Despite this wide spread support to hold Nachito's 'owner' accountable for his murder, the governor has done nothing.

Nachito did not deserve this, no animal does.

Please sign the petition for him, all that were lost before him and all that will come after unless we DO SOMETHING NOW. We cannot ignore this any longer...it has to change.
