The Issue

THE NA’ZIYAH HARRIS BILL

Purpose:
The Na’Ziyah Harris Bill is meant to help protect children, improve responses to missing child cases, and hold adults accountable when they fail to protect a child.

Immediate Reporting
Any parent, guardian, caregiver, or adult responsible for a child must report a missing or endangered child to police immediately.
Caregiver Accountability
Any adult who knowingly hides information, delays reporting, lies to investigators, helps conceal a child, or ignores serious danger to a child should be investigated and held accountable under the law.
Faster Missing Child Response
Police and emergency agencies should respond quickly to missing child cases without unnecessary delays, especially when a child may be in danger.
Family Communication
Families should receive reasonable updates during active missing child investigations whenever possible.
Missing Children Awareness Day
The City of Detroit should recognize an annual Missing Children Awareness Day in honor of Na’Ziyah Harris and other missing children.
Community Education
The city should work with schools and community organizations to educate the public about child safety, trafficking, grooming, abuse prevention, and reporting missing children.
Goal:
To make sure every missing child case is treated seriously and that adults responsible for protecting children are held accountable when they fail to act.
