Boycott Film "A Dog's Purpose" due to Animal Cruelty

The Issue

"Just gotta throw him in," is heard at the beginning of the disturbing video recording the filming of a scene from A Dog's Purpose. The leaked video (link below) captures a terrified german shepherd being forced into a pool of violent water against his will. The dog is eventually thrown in for almost a minute of footage.

"Cut it!" is heard toward the end of video and crew members are seen rushing toward the dog. The german shepherd was submerged in the water until he almost drowned. Death was the limit here.

This attitude toward film is degrading to the industry, the actors, and the audience. Firstly, there is no excuse for production companies to stoop down to this level for a mere scene when there are many other options for obtaining such footage. Secondly, if an animal is in a film, the public expects that it is to be treated with the same respect as any other actor and should not be forced to perform a stunt against its will. Thirdly, the audience expects that animals were not harmed in any production of a film, and, by default, if a film made it to the cinema, it supposedly met all ethical standards for animal rights. A Dog's Purpose clearly does not meet these standards so the audience should not be lied to while taking its money.

This petition asks the general public to boycott the film A Dog's Purpose which is set to be released on 27 January 2017.

To help spread the message, the petition also asks that Mélanie Joly, as the Minister for Canadian Heritage, who heads the federal government's responsibilities for culture, media, sports, and arts, to publicly support this petition.

Please sign the petition and let the agony of Hercules the German Shepherd not go to waste. Please sign and make A Dog's Purpose an example of the repercussions for animal cruelty in the film industry.
