I hope everyone had a safe and happy Easter break. Sadly, over the long weekend, we learned of two more lives lost at a music festival, this time in Queensland.
We don't know the details yet, all we know is that families have lost loved ones. The young man and woman, Dassarn and Ebony, were just 24 and 22 years old. My heart breaks for their mothers, their families, and anyone that knew them and loved them.
We do know that the festival was moved from northern NSW to Southern Downs in Queensland this Easter, because of the extreme crackdown, excessive policing, and fees on festivals in NSW.
This festival said they were doing all they could to help keep young people safe:
"We have highly trained first aid, professional paramedics working 24 hours during throughout the festival & an on-call doctor onsite. In addition, QLD Police & QLD Ambulance are on duty in a user pay capacity during the festival. We work together with authorities to ensure that the environment we provide is as safe as possible."
Everyone needs to do their part in keeping festivals as safe as possible. When will politicians stop trying to kill festivals? Can't they see they'll just end up killing more kids in the process?
Young people won't stop taking risks. We need to stop driving them away: out of our homes, or across state lines.
The NSW and Victorian governments need to understand this. Just because Summer has ended, the issue hasn't gone away. Now is the time for us to make pill testing a reality.
