Petition updateMy son died at a music festival – start pill testing to save livesThis is exactly what I was afraid of

The unthinkable has happened again. Two people died last night after the Defqon1 festival in Sydney. Defqon1 has a 'zero tolerance' policy on drugs and look what that has achieved. My condolences go out to the families and friends of these two young people whose lives were cut short. It breaks my heart.

And for this to happen on a day when I thought I would be sending you an email just with good news. I'm supporting the start up a new drug safety testing charity in Australia and thanks to 72 beautiful people like you, we have passed the half way mark on the fundraising campaign.

But as if we needed a reminder of what is at stake here, I've woken up this morning to this shocking news from Sydney.

How many times as a community do we need to read articles like this? How many more families have to suffer? I know how the devastation of a drug death continues in families and communities for generations. It's time that we as a community act and demand a change in approach. We need a safety net for people who use drugs.

On Thursday night in Melbourne I spoke at the launch of The Loop Safety Testing. I talked about how urgent and important this service is. If my son had been able to have a consultation with trained health professionals and find out what really was in the drugs he was taking he could still be here with us today. Please help make it possible with a donation today.

Thanks for your support, it means so much to me.
