My Face. My Right. | A Global Petition to End Deepfake Abuse and Defend Digital Identity
The Issue
We, the undersigned, believe that every person has the right to control their own face, voice and body in digital spaces.
Deepfakes are AI-generated images, videos and voices that closely resemble real people. They are often used without consent, and are increasingly being used to deceive, harass or impersonate individuals.
This is a serious violation of personal dignity, privacy and safety. It must be addressed before it becomes normalised.
We call on schools, universities, workplaces and institutions of all kinds to:
- Publicly recognise the right of individuals to control their own likeness.
- Prohibit the creation or use of deepfakes without clear and informed consent.
- Educate members of their community about digital identity, deepfake risks and AI ethics.
Around the world, some countries have begun to recognise the right to one's own digital likeness. We believe that institutions everywhere can and should act now to uphold this principle.
Our faces, voices and bodies are not public property. They are part of who we are.
This is a call for safety, respect and responsibility in the age of artificial intelligence.
My face. My right.
