This petition aims to further strictly prohibit the the selling, trading and consumption of dog meat in Benguet, Philippines.

Residents of Barangay Shilan in La Trinidad, Benguet found 38 dog carcasses dumped off a cliff on Monday afternoon. Shilan village chief Jeffrey Maslag believes the skinned dogs were to be sold in small restaurants and eateries here and in La Trinidad where some residents eat dog meat. Residents and village officials immediately reported what they found to local police and the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO). The carcasses were immediately buried in the village of Lamut. "Para ‘di na mag-cause ng health hazard and pollution (So they would no longer cause health hazards and pollution)," said MENRO officer Arthur Pedro.

Authorities are still investigating who should be held liable for the incident.

Under the Animal Welfare Act of the Philippines, killing, selling and eating dog meat are strictly prohibited.
