The Issue

On September 13, 2021, the Municipal Criminal Court in Zagreb in Croatia found the churchman Ivor Ivanišević guilty of raping his dogs for a period of six years. He was sentenced to one year in prison.

According to the verdict, Ivanišević must also pay the following costs: HRK 14,633 for the criminal proceedings, HRK 7,733 for the preparation of the findings and opinion of the veterinary expert, HRK 1,900 for the psychiatric expertise, and court costs in the amount of HRK 5,000.

The mitigating circumstance is his previous non-conviction, and the aggravating one is the long period of time in which the criminal offense took place.

According to the text of the verdict, Ivanišević was found guilty because in the period from an unspecified date in 2009 to September 21, 2015, at various addresses in Croatia and in the apartment he used in Zagreb for the satisfaction of his sex drive and by agreeing to inflict unnecessary pain and suffering on the dogs, he had sexual intercourses with his dogs, breed Rhodesian Hound.

According to the verdict, he produced artificial reflexes in the female dog he raped by depriving her of water and food, all in order to allow him the acts of physical abuse, thus causing the dog unreasonable pain and suffering. Food and water came as a reward for satisfying his sexual preferences. The dog was actually trained to get raped and accepted him without defense. In fact, the poor dog could choose between rape or permanent hunger, thirst, and beatings.

Ivanisevic, who is an employee of the European Parliament and has been on sick leave for a long time, was tried in absentia, given that he was inaccessible to the Croatian law enforcement authorities, but also to the Belgian police.

It should be reminded that, according to the indictment, Ivanišević starved the dog, and then, after the rape, gave her food and water as a reward. He recorded and documented all this on hundreds of CDs and DVDs, which the police found in his apartment. Ivor Ivanisevic successfully avoided trial in Croatia for six years.

Ivanisevic is a former member of the Council for Ecumenism of the Croatian Bishops' Conference, and he avoided the trial on the grounds of depression and PTSD.

Ivanisevic was caught in a big hunt for pedophiles, and he demanded that the public be excluded from the trial, which was initially approved, but that decision was soon revoked, so the public had the right to know all the details of the indictment.

The media wrote that Ivanišević sent pictures of dogs in sexual poses with men and photos of sexual organs over the Internet. In one of his many emails, he described how he tried to have a sadomasochistic relationship with dogs. He even sent the images from the e-mail address of his company, so it was not difficult for investigators to reveal his identity. During the search of his apartment, 111 DVDs and CDs of interest to investigators were found, and his memory cards and mobile phones were confiscated.

The female dog of the Rhodesian hound, whom he sexually abused according to the indictment, was placed in Dumovec, but she died very quickly from the injuries he inflicted on her.

"The female dog died soon after arriving at the shelter. She was completely ruined by the rape. The male is still alive. He is in Dumovec," the newspaper learned earlier from animal protection activists who took care of the dogs taken from Ivanisevic.

During the interrogation, Ivanišević defended himself by keeping silent, while he tried to put the blame for the poor condition of the dogs on the shelter in Dumovec.

After the indictment was filed, Ivanisevic spent his days in Brussels. He is an employee of the European Parliament.

"He works in the Finance Directorate, in the Department for the calculation of per diems and travel expenses of European Parliament employees. He is said to live on a farm," an EP employee told to newspapers in late 2019, who asked for anonymity.

One year in jail is a joke coming from the Criminal Court in Zagreb. There must be harsher punishment implemented for severe cases of animal abuse like this one.

Sign this petition and spread the word, because this man will be out in a year and will continue to torture animals as a free man.
