On February 15th, 2019 a military veterans service dog was stolen by her former abusive partner to continue to emotionally abuse her. The day he abducted the dog, he went right into the shelter that his step sister volunteered at and obtained a county license for his name and his address despite the microchip and everything being in the owners(veteran) name and address. When the owner tried to retrieve the service dog, with police in tow and an abundance of proof, they determined the abducter had enough “proof of ownership” to give them reasonable doubt, which were tags he obtained that same day. It has been an absolute nightmare especially since its not just a pet, but a necesssity for her welfare. The legal system has failed our military veteran, her special needs son, and their service dog. 

Something needs to change! This shouldn’t be okay. Please help us in changing the laws in obtaining licensing without proof of ownership. 

In changing this we can help prevent a lot of stolen dog cases that waste the police officers time, cause heartache, and jam up our courts. It’s not too much to ask and is very simple.
