MultiChoice Nigeria: Start pay-per-view

The Issue

It is no longer news that Nigerians hardly have electricity to watch TV or enjoy their subscriptions because of the nationwide power cuts and it is important for MultiChoice Nigeria, which has benefitted from years of enjoying a profitable business in Nigeria, needs to make decisions that suit present and foreseeable realities.

A company that calls itself MULTICHOICE should give subscribers a choice. A major one is to implement the pay-per-view subscription plan as StarTimes has done allowing subscribers to choose daily, weekly, monthly, or quarterly plans and enjoy all exciting content on their preferred package/bouquet valid for the period paid for.

It is very discouraging when subscribers pay for monthly subscriptions and didn't get the value. Another issue that needs to be considered is DSTV’s habit of repeating programs by some of its channels.  Multichoice needs to regulate its channels and ensure that Nigerians truly get value for their money.

Lastly, the recent increase in their tariff at this critical time will go a long way to discourage Nigerians from subscribing to both DSTV and GOTV cables. They should reconsider the hike in price and replace it with pay-per-view plan.

We can no longer pay for what we do not use. Therefore, we’re calling MultiChoice to allow:

1. Start pay-per-view flexible subscription plans.

2. Allow subscribers to maintain the same subscription fee for at least a year.

3. Allow customers to suspend their subscription at least 5 times a year.

4. Allow subscribers to have a choice of channels for a year and pay for those bouquet.

We can no longer pay for what we do not use.
