A lot has been achieved in tax matters since the takeoff of our ''Give Biz Start-ups 3yrs Tax Free Holiday, Amnesty for all CAC Registered Business Names'' campaign. Below are some of the highlights. 1. The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) published a public notice on Monday, 12 October 2015 to notify the general public that companies and individuals who do not currently have a tax identification number (TIN) or are yet to be registered with the FIRS (for Company Income Tax and VAT) or with any State Board of Internal Revenue will henceforth be able to make tax payments without a TIN or VAT registration number. Two TINs (i.e. 16192267- 0001 and 16192618 – 0001) have been provided to all collecting banks for the purpose of receiving and processing such tax payments. 2. The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) recently issued a public notice on the payment of provisional tax on interim dividends. This directive is made pursuant to the provisions of Section 43(6) of the Companies Income Tax Act (CITA). 3. The Federal Government in an official gazette published on 9 June 2015, issued the “Schedule to Taxes and Levies (Approved List for Collection) Act (Amendment) Order, 2015” (herein referred to as “Schedule to the Principal Act”) – to amend the schedule to the principal Act, Taxes and Levies (Approved List for Collection) Act. This order effects amendment to the number of taxes to be collected and administered by the different tiers of government. The effective date of commencement of the Order is 26 May 2015.
