That’s according to AM NY.
However, eliminating up to half the bus stops as was proposed for Queens, is cutting service.
When it takes longer to reach a bus stop, especially difficult for those with problems walking, you also increase the probability of just missing a bus and your trip will take longer, even if headways are not cut.
If you have to wait ten minutes longer because you just missed a bus because your bus stop is no longer there, a trip that previously took you 30 minutes will now take you 40 minutes. That is equivalent to a 33 percent service cut.
These bus stop removals are moving forward without community input and regardless of route change proposals. And half the local bus stops will also be removed in Brooklyn, Staten Island, and Manhattan under the false assumption that buses will travel faster, if we remain silent.
The only time saved will be from acceleration and deceleration which is negligible. OMNY which will allow all door boarding will shorten times spent at bus stops anyway. So greatly reducing the numbers of bus stops really is unnecessary and will discourage bus usage especially in bad weather when no one wants to walk up to 3/4 mile to or from a bus stop. So reducing bus stops will eventually result in less frequent service, which the Governor says she’s against.
