Petition to the MSU Board- re-institute pass/fail, improve online learning.

The Issue

Since the COVID-19 pandemic has forced university operations to go fully online, many students have seen a decline in the quality of that education as in-person lectures are replaced with extra readings, more busywork, and less effective teaching. Many students are struggling to succeed in learning like this, and it's important that the MSU administration knows about the issues we students face.

We'd like to request some changes from the university:

1- To re-institute the optional pass/fail system used last semester, during the outbreak of the virus,

2- For all professors to offer conference-call or recorded-lecture formats in their courses,

3- For faculty to recognize how much homework is too much for their students in each course, and to make appropriate changes to course structures,

4- To faculty and administration to assess the effectiveness of external learning software used in courses,

5- To provide more resources for students with disabilities and those without reliable internet to succeed in these unique circumstances.
