Thanks to the attention generated by this petition and its supporters, the BBC last month conducted an investigation into the trustees of Exeter Mosque and found that they had indeed accepted money from an alleged extremist cleric who has been caught on camera praising al-Qaeda linked terror groups. The BBC investigation also revealed that the trustees led by Mr Shaheed Ul Hassan have been ruling the Exeter Muslim community with an iron fist, refusing to hold AGMs or even elections. They have set up systems that prevent them from being held accountable, and have also recently allowed for the distribution of leaflets after communal prayers denouncing any critics of the trustees as being "against Islam" itself. Since the BBC's report last month, the trustees have still not answered any of the questions raised in this petition, and have continued to defend Sheikh Ghariani despite his obvious links to extremist groups who pose a real and present danger to Britain's national security. We now call on the Charity Commission to take urgent action and to use its regulatory powers to remove these trustees from office. There can be no room for extremism or those who sympathise with extremists in British mosques, so please sign and share this petition so that we can finally get the action we need to keep our collective British communities safe.
