Run night buses in Chelmsford

The Issue

Residents of Chelmsford will feel safer getting home from late night work or nights out if buses ran later in the city centre. Currently there are no buses running after 11.30pm from Chelmsford city centre although the last train home from London arrives at 1.30am. It baffles me how there are no buses that coincide with the last train home. In addition, if pubs and clubs are open past midnight then surely the council have to supply reasonable transport provisions not only for the customers but for workers to get home at night. This is also the case with Chelmsford being home to Broomfield Hospital- how do NHS workers in the A & E get home after a late shift if there are no buses running and the street lights are off? With the new bars, clubs, restaurants and supermarkets being open 24 hours and more minimum wage workers who have to get home outside of normal working hours, how can the council expect people to get home safely without paying out a small fortune on a taxi. Lastly, with the street lights being off at this time, it means more and more people are resulting to walking home in the dark, or paying out a large sum for a taxi home just to be safe. In addition, as the Council are saving money from having the street lights off, surely they can afford to provide a bus service at this time so people are able to get home safely without paying over the odds for a taxi. As we are a City, surely it is a good idea to have night buses on, even if there is just one an hour?
