President Biden's domestic accomplishments notwithstanding, he has made possible Israel’s months-long massacre in Gaza, including what many nations consider to be war crimes, even genocide.

Prime Minister Netanyahu's "mighty vengeance" cannot destroy Hamas, and will swell its ranks unless Israel can come to see the folly of the unjust order it maintains.

Since Hamas, which was not especially popular in Gaza, foresaw a disproportionate response by Israel to its attack of October 7, and even promised more, what sense did it make to oblige Hamas?

The only way to defeat Hamas is to undermine it politically, by working to finally establish a bona fide Palestinian state. Israelis will not know peace and security until Palestinians know the same.

If we valued Palestinian lives equally with Israeli lives, these considerations would have informed our policy; we would have leveraged our military aid to Israel from the start.

Dear President Biden,

     We, citizens of the United States, believe that Israel's war in Gaza includes extensive war crimes.

     We also believe that despite your criticisms of Israeli tactics, your persistent efforts to produce a temporary cease-fire, and your widening rift with Prime Minister Netanyahu, your continued military support and scuttling of U.N. Security Council resolutions over many months amount to complicity in those crimes.     

      We therefore strongly urge you to bow out of the 2024 presidential race, and to call upon the Democratic Party to adopt a new and truly even-handed policy with respect to Israelis and Palestinians.

     We insist that you call for an immediate and permanent cease-fire to allow for the exchange of hostages and Palestinians in Israeli jails, and for the massive humanitarian relief needed, and to begin the rebuilding of Palestinian life in Gaza.

    We insist that you leverage U.S. military aid to that purpose, and to pressure Israel to commit to a viable Palestinian state. That must include an end to its blockade of Gaza and the removal of all Jewish settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
