Notify the unprotected forest areas around Tadoba-Andheri Tiger Reserve (TATR) i.e. forest areas of chandrapur under FDCM Maharashtra and Chandrapur Forest Division as part of core and buffer area of TATR
The Issue
With a recent study by Chandrapur forest division and Wildlife Conservation Trust showing that there are at least 48 tigers living in the unprotected areas around the tadoba andheri tiger reserve (TATR), it is very much imperative to say that the success story of tiger conservation in tadoba would be short lived unless it is expanded right now to accommodate increasing number of tigers.
With a tiger density of 2.34 in the kanhalgaon-central chanda block and 1.77 in the junona-central chanda block,it is clear that these areas are much more suitable for tiger conservation than melghat, sahyadri, palamu, buxa etc.
Therefore it is the high time to notify this areas as an extension of the tadoba-andheri tiger reserve, with specified core and buffer zone, and transform the greater tadoba landscape into a much more vibrant tiger habitat, for long term benefit of conservation of India's flagship species.
In a situation when the tiger is showing a remarkable trend to turn around from the brink of its extinction with an increase in their number after a steady downfall, every tiger counts and 48 tigers do make a huge potential as they include numerous healthy breeding pairs.
Besides, this it would also enhance the vital connectivity in the central indian tiger landscape by securing corridors.
Therefore we would request you to notify the area as part of TATR,extend the protection of a tiger reserve to these areas as well, regulate human interference give the tiger a chance to survive on this planet.
