We petition the Department of Public Safety to transfer Mr. Van Keoki Kahumoku, #A05003116, to Kulani Correctional Facility on Hawai'i Island

Mr. Kahumoku is a Kanaka Maoli, a Vietnam veteran who served with the US Army for more than 20 years, recognized with PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder), already 66 years old, has been incarcerated for more than 16 years (mostly in Oklahoma and Arizona), serving a life sentence with a minimum of 15 years, with medical problems of recognized diabetes and hypertension with suspected kidney disease which comes from being overweight. To assist in his healing we request that he be transferred to the Kulani Correctional Facility on his home island, near his last household where it is convenient for close friends to come visit him, including his wife. The environment at Kulani is most conducive for healing with access to medical personnel and native Hawaiian practitioners who understand the needs of a Kanaka Maoli.
